![]() ![]() How they got there, what their society was like, and so on. There was so much to explore in Bartertown, the Thunderdome, Pig Farming, etc. (Ironbars doll head on pole has to be one the dumbest things I've seen in quite some time.)Ģ) It took two disparate and completely unrelated plots and jammed them together: 1) Bartertown and Max killing MasterBlaster for Entity, and 2) The lost Children.Įither one of those Plots could have been an entire film unto itself. I wouldn't quite say it was a kids movie-almost, but not quite, but it definitely lost the sharp, realistic and dangerous edge the Road Warrior had in spades. There were two fundamental issues that affected this film adversely:ġ) It's was PG'd down substantially. And it is an ultimately unfulfilling experience for me. Remember how long it took Max to get out of the cuffs in MMII? We see a completely different Max in MMIII. Staying in Bartertown so long was unfulfilling for a character who was rarely captive, and when he was, he for out easily. It took everything that was great about the first two films and injected them with meth.īut you are right, imo. It did not hold with the whole run/chase/explode motif from previous films. Which meant that their both staying in Bartertown was a good money move. I suspect with the high salaries of Mel Gibson and Tina Turner alone meant that the producers wanted them both on screen as long as possible. When Max learns that the pilot succeeded, there was no doubt a thread of amazement in Max. ![]() Max didn't kill him outright, and he gave the pilot a hell of a task to find his copter again. Thy gyro copter pilot in Mad Max 2: The Road Warrior, actually comes back to help in the road chase, which probably slightly changes Max's mind about the guy. Incredibly confusing because they become friends in the movie before, than instantly in the second he robs and tries to kill him. Not to mention they for some reason decided to reuse the same actor as the gyro captain from the second film, and recast him in an almost identical role in the third. I think with the additional money they got way to carried away trying to build exotic locations and spectacles. They for some reason get gcaught up in the scale of the world, and spend way to much time world building bartertown. Not a single car chase scene until 90 minutes in, and when one does happen its super short. Mad max is no longer a stoic and silent warrior, its just Mel Gibson doing his thing. The third however, is jarring with how different it is. The first is a spectacular movie, and the second is an incredible follow up that carries forward the same dark tone and crazy road chases Decided to catch up on some older movies that i've been meaning to see, and I watched the original mad max trilogy all back to back. ![]()
